| | LA | NY A Special Edition of The East Village Jane Van Ingen Poetry Circle In the poetry circle we read prose that we have memorized and drink coffee over a hot debate. The retired teacher and electrician recite T.S. Eliot and Robert Frost and chuckle nervously when a wide-eyed, vivacious woman in her 20s closes her eyes and repeats six stanzas by some obscure Russian poet about love and passion with more than a little bit of sex sprinkled in. The retired teacher and electrician politely disregard her youthfulness. A discussion about changing sexual mores follows. But I am also young and want to tell them about a lesbian poet I know quite a few years my senior who has written quite a few stories in erotic lesbian anthologies and quite a few poems in erotic literary journals that leaves her fans panting for more while she shops at adult toy stores for her lover in New Jersey. She and I will not be reading our poems in their poetry circle in the near future. NY Index |
